The Next Frontier of Interior Design: Connecting AI, Design and Execution
For years, conversations around innovation in interior design have revolved around better visualisations, immersive customer experiences, and more recently, artificial intelligence. While these developments have certainly elevated the design process, they don’t address the industry’s biggest challenge execution.
A beautiful 3D render means little if it cannot be translated accurately into the finished home. Homeowners do not judge an interiors brand by the quality of its presentation; they judge it by whether the final outcome matches what they were promised.
In my experience, the real gap in India’s organised interiors sector has never been creativity. It has been coordination.
Every interior project involves multiple stakeholders – designers, project managers, quality teams, manufacturing units, installers, and vendors. When each team operates on separate systems, information inevitably gets lost in transition. Design revisions are missed, measurements are duplicated, production errors creep in, and project timelines begin to slip.
Technology should eliminate these friction points rather than simply making presentations look better.
This philosophy has shaped our technology journey at Interior Company.
Instead of building isolated AI features, we focused on creating an integrated digital platform where every stage of an interior project is connected. Through our proprietary platform, Blocks, customer requirements, design concepts, budgets, technical drawings, bills of quantities, quality checks, and manufacturing specifications all exist within a single workflow. This ensures that the same information flows seamlessly from the designer’s screen to the factory floor without unnecessary handoffs or duplication.
Only after establishing this connected ecosystem did we begin embedding artificial intelligence into our operations.
Today, AI supports our designers by automating repetitive tasks such as generating layouts, creating production-ready drawings, reviewing designs for inconsistencies, comparing project versions, and recommending material upgrades based on customer preferences and budgets. Rather than replacing human creativity, AI allows our teams to dedicate more time to design thinking while significantly improving operational efficiency.
The results reinforce our belief that meaningful technology investments should create measurable business outcomes.
During FY25-26, we reduced our median design turnaround time from 42 days to 37 days while compressing our quality-control timelines by nearly a quarter. At the same time, our quality teams were able to process substantially higher project volumes without a proportional increase in resources, demonstrating that efficiency and quality can improve together when workflows are intelligently connected.
However, technology alone is not the differentiator.
Every project completed through our platform contributes valuable operational intelligence. Each approved design, manufacturing outcome, quality review, and customer preference strengthens the system, helping us refine processes and build smarter workflows over time. This continuous learning creates long-term value that extends well beyond automation.
Looking ahead, we believe this capability should not remain limited to a single organisation.
As India’s interior design market continues to expand, there is an opportunity to build a stronger technology ecosystem for the industry. That is why we are working towards making our technology platform available to the broader design community, enabling designers and businesses to benefit from integrated workflows while accelerating the industry’s digital transformation.
The future of interior design will not be defined solely by artificial intelligence or better visualisation tools. It will belong to businesses that can seamlessly connect design, technology, manufacturing, and execution into one intelligent ecosystem.
Ultimately, homeowners are not buying drawings or digital renders, they are investing in confidence. The real measure of innovation is ensuring that every design approved on screen is delivered with the same precision inside the home.
